My Initiatives to the Greens' Party Congress

28.04.2026

Luettavissa myös suomeksi.

The Greens' Party Congress takes place in a little under a month, and initiatives made to the Party Congress — including the ones I worked on — were published today.

The entire list of initiatives and decision proposals can be read here. Decision proposals have not yet been made for my initiatives; I will update this post when they are added.

My Initiatives

This year I participated in the drafting of three different Party Congress initiatives. These are detailed below.

Permanent Residence After Two Years in Finland

The first initiative that I worked on proposes as a goal that an immigrant should receive permanent residence status automatically after two years of uninterupted residence. After two years, a person who has moved to Finland can already vote in local elections, and two years can be a very long time especially for families with children.

This and the next initiative were prepared by me and a few other Green Sisu board members, and were delivered to the party in English.

Full Voting Rights for Permanent Residents Regardless of Citizenship

The second (again English-language) intitiative that I worked on proposes the goal that immigrants holding permanent residence in Finland should have full voting rights in all Finnish elections, i.e. that they should get vote in parliamentary and presidential elections in addition to municipal and county elections. The initiative proposes the same goal for the European parliament, although we also point out that this is not decided solely in Finland.

Ban Generative AI!

The only Finnish-language initiative that I worked on demands a ban on AI that mimics the output of creative disciplines or presents itself as human.

Art, language, music, and other creative or "cultural" activities make up the core of what makes us human, and people have a right to be able to trust that texts and works of art that they see were made by a person or people. The tendency of AI to generate confident but wrong answers can also endanger people's health, if it is asked medical questions; in addition, it has been shown that models replicate prejudices present in their training data and often produce racist or discriminatory content.

Initiatives that I Signed

LGBTQ Homelessness into Daylight

I also signed Salmi Soljua and a few other active Greens' initiative on LGBTQ homelessness. I did not help write this initiative and cannot take any credit for making it, but this issue is very important and I am glad to help draw more attention to it from the party.
