Today is International Transgender Day of Remembrance. I'm supposed to write a traditional memorial post.
But I don't have a traditional memorial post in me.
All of the statistics have been listed, the processions planned and marched, and my sorrow and fear have had time to shift to anger — and that too has finally cooled into the same sort of grim determination that I first felt a few days after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
And this has become the core of my trans activism.
It's always important to take a moment to remember and mourn. But that part of the job is done. Now, it's time to realize that when so many people want to kill us, we have only one real option: to stand up together, join forces, and stop them.
Because they won't stop until they are stopped.
But we're not going anywhere. We will never back down.
And we will fight until we win.
