On the Fourth Day of Russia's War, Ukraine Still Needs Support

Today marks four years since Vladimir Putin began Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

In many ways, the situation looks grim.

In duration, this drawn-out war begins to evoke the first World War, which lasted only a few months longer than Russia's war of aggression.

A disgustingly Russian-friendly American president sits in the White House, with ideas of peace that play right into Moscow's hands.

And in Finland and elsewhere in Europe, far right forces draw greater and greater support in elections, and threaten to topple our democracy in favor of Putin and his dictator friends.

History shows us, however, that despite its extreme cruelty, Russian imperialism is neither eternal nor invincible. Today is also the first day on which Finland has enjoyed its freedom as an independent state longer than tyranny under Russian control. Amidst terrifying times, this thought brings hope.

But nothing is for certain. Now more than ever, Ukraine needs our support. Material support to Ukraine — both military and civilian — must be increased remarkably, and then increased again for good measure. Now that this still ongoing war has already lasted over four years, there is no longer any justification for less.

Слава Україні!
